Friends of Freshwater Library’s ‘Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service’ presentation photos

Tuesday 9th July

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of the IOW, Mrs Susie Sheldon, accompanied by 3 Deputy Lieutenants and others from her team, attended a ceremony at Freshwater Library at which she presented The Friends of Freshwater Library with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

This prestigious award, the equivalent of an MBE for community groups, recognises groups whose work has significantly benefited others and sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering by such groups.
The Friends were presented with a specially commissioned commemorative crystal and a certificate signed by Her Majesty The Queen.  Both will be displayed in the Library in due course.

The ceremony was attended by the Fofl committee members, volunteers and supporters as well as representatives from Totland and Freshwater Parish Councils and The IOW Library Service, and was followed by a celebratory reception.

Ann Fraser, Chair of Fofl said:
We feel hugely honoured to be given this award, and our success as a group is entirely due to the fantastic support we receive from the local community who support us in many ways and thereby help to secure the provision of the much valued library service in West Wight.
